Carpal tunnel syndrome – tips and techniques

Tips and techniques for knitting with carpal tunnel syndrome

Taking carpal tunnel syndrome seriously does not mean giving up your passion for manual work. It means taking responsibility for yourself. For many, this was precisely the step that enabled them to continue knitting in the long term.

In the KnitAgain community, knitting is not seen as an achievement, but as a relationship. To one’s own history, to one’s hands and to one’s own pace. Carpal tunnel syndrome changes this relationship. But it doesn’t necessarily end it.

Many people say today: I knit differently than I used to. But I still knit.

1. adjust pauses and tempo

Many report that they do not stop completely, but change their pace:

“Only a few rows a day.”

“Take lots of breaks”

“Take a break and then carry on”

So: don’t stop, but adapt!

2. the right needles make the difference

A frequently mentioned point:

“Bamboo needles are perceived as more comfortable.”

“Larger needle sizes take the strain off the hands.”

So: small changes can help noticeably.

3. home remedies & routines

“Rub or wrap your hands at night, e.g. in Retterspitz.”

Not everything is scientifically proven, but for many this is exactly what works in everyday life.

4. movement & exercises

Some rely on targeted exercises:

“There are great videos on YouTube with exercises, especially for pain caused by carpal tunnel syndrome.”

It is worth trying out different approaches here. Liebscher & Bracht has a few nice videos on this topic. videos published.
